LITTLE ELM ISD
Strike and Walker Middle Schools
For the new Strike and Walker Middle Schools, our team designed a prototype that works for both site conditions, creating equity between the two campuses. The design places a strong emphasis on collaboration and flexibility in education delivery.
A large commons area serves as the central space with all other areas converging around it to promote visibility and campus-wide interaction. Floor to ceiling glass in this area provides abundant natural light as well as a visual connection to a large courtyard for dining and outdoor learning. The library sits at the top of the central learning platform with the makerspace and CTE wing flanking one side.
The 6th, 7th and 8th grade programs are placed into a three-story academic wing with collaboration spaces throughout the interior and exterior of the building, allowing multiple opportunities for student and teacher engagement. The classrooms in the academic wings have a mixture of movable partitions to provide flexibility supporting modern learning.
