Alvarado Junior High
The design of AJH was highly influenced by district and campus staff that wanted to push the envelope and create a new standard for instructional delivery in the district. A large student commons is the primary focal point of the campus, which serves as a gathering space and separates the quieter academic wings from the more active functions of the building. Also centrally located is the library, which features a “genius lounge,” providing informal social space for small group and individual study and the opportunity for students to serve as technological “geniuses” to other students and staff. A courtyard for outdoor dining and student gathering and a presentation/small group instruction space with fixed tiered seating are other highlights that make this campus a functional and progressive learning environment for Alvarado’s junior high students.
